2022 Marina Bay Sands Countdown
Digital 2D Illustration
Dr Chong, a palliative care specialist at Star Pals (HCA Hospice Care), thinks of the children he has helped as star dusts that lights up the sky. Despite having a short life span, they shine the brightest in the night sky.
The artwork brings Dr Chong’s words together with the obstacles we have to face through in 2021 because of COVID-19. Despite the hardships we went through, we care for each other with an open heart, regardless of age and color. All come together and shine as bright as a star. Illuminating the path ahead, as we look forward to a brighter start together.
The final look of the animation on the Fullerton Hotel by Michelle Hong
(My work is the first to show)
The original plan was for me to contribute for the ArtScience Museum display, but during the production, I was advised to modify my artwork to display on the Fullerton Hotel instead. Therefore, here are some original drafts for this artwork.

The original sequence for the ArtScience Museum
I was then requested to do another rendition for The Fullerton Hotel. The dimensions are totally different, so I had to take some creative liberties to make sense of the story I wanted to convey.

Then I was then requested to create more characters for the night version:

The animating part was then handed to their Hexogon Solution, and I couldn't view the progress they did with the artworks. I only saw the final result when the countdown event started.
The artwork was also featured in the Marina Bay Sands Countdown website with the following descriptions below.

The results was not up to me, so I couldn't say much, but I do prefer the result that was shown here, rather than the final one. Despite the confusion and lack of communication with the animator team, the whole experience was exciting and memorable.
